The time-consuming and arduous process of Small's hand dyeing and washing reflects centuries-old methods discovered from his research, and yields timeless and ecologically sustainable results of unique beauty, individuality and feel. Each hand dyed piece requires an average of 6-8 hours of expert work to achieve its unique patina and effect. The water at Cavarzere comes from the Adige, Italy's second largest river which originates high in the Alto Adige-Sud Tirol region of the alps. It contains calcium and other properties which give unique effects to the washing and dyeing process that are indigenous to the specific area where Small lives and works.
